SciTech4Dev, short for “Science and Technology for Development”, is an annual forum organized by the Caraga State University as a venue where key stakeholders meet and exchange knowledge on the use of Science and Technology for sustainable development. The forum was also aimed to foster dialogue and stronger collaboration as well as to continue the momentum in building R&D-based development networks.
The first SciTech4Dev Forum was held on December 9, 2015 at the Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City as one of the highlights in the celebration of 5th founding anniversary of the Caraga State University. The forum featured the former President of the Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology (NORMISIST; now CSU), Dr. Edgar W. Ignacio, as its keynote speaker. This one-day event made way for the University to present the status and accomplishments of its RDE undertakings to all stakeholders.
Following the success of SciTech4Dev 2015, the University once again organized SciTech4Dev in 2016. But that time, it was a 4-day activity (November 7-10, 2016) that was anchored on the theme “Capitalizing on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development”. The first day of SciTech4Dev 2016 was the blessing and launching of the Organic Agriculture Center of the University. An RDE Symposium was held on the first day where research papers were presented in oral and poster technical sessions in several thematic areas. On the third day, plenary sessions were held featuring distinguished speakers talking about international and regional S&T perspectives on sustainable development. On the last day of the event, local and international speakers gave lectures during the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum and Workshop”
In 2017, SciTech4Dev was held with the theme “Science and Technology Towards Countryside Development.” Just like its predecessors, SciTech4Dev 2017 gathered research, development and extension (RDE) workers and key partners from government, industry, local government units (LGUs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and academe within and outside the Caraga Region, to further discuss S&T-based interventions and solutions to develop and improve the people’s quality of life in the countryside. Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, the DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development was the Forum’s keynote speaker.
This 2018, SciTech4Dev is once again organized to gather stakeholders to meet and exchange knowledge on the use of Science and Technology for inclusive education.
